Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions are dental procedures performed to remove a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. The tooth needs to be removed in the event of severe decay, infection, crowding or damage beyond repair due to trauma.

Before performing an extraction, our dentist will typically administer a local anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth to minimize discomfort. In more complex cases or for anxious patients, sedation options may be available to ensure comfort throughout the procedure.

Once the tooth is removed, we will provide instructions for aftercare to promote healing and prevent complications such as infection. This may include gently biting on a piece of gauze to help form a blood clot in the socket and avoiding certain activities that could disrupt healing, such as smoking or drinking through a straw.

Following extraction, it is important to follow up with Dr. Jeffrey Tjan to monitor healing and discuss options for replacing the extracted tooth if necessary. Options may include dental implants, bridges or dentures to restore function and aesthetics.
